Use a combination in a smaller home
If you have a room problem in your household you should study putting in a combi gas boiler. You only need a combi boiler and balanced flue to fit a full central heating system without any other components. To complete the heating you just need radiators, the essential fittings and a quantity of copper piping. Your first reaction maybe that we had forgotten some pieces. Isn’t it true that most systems seem to need a feed and expansion cylinder in the attic, a water pump to transfer the hot water around and a storage tank to keep hot water when not needed.
The response to your questions would be that with a typical combi boiler you do need these parts. You can leave out the hot water storage cylinder, you do not need a feed and enlargement tank up in the loft, and the other smaller components are already built into the boiler. So you can see with a combi heating boiler you can save a substantial amount of space within your dwelling house.
Combination heating boilers have been installed for a while. The combi has been more popular in Europe than in the U.K., but is now being installed more frequently as an alternative to the traditional wall mounted gas boiler. It is has two main differences with the system and typical type of heating boilers. A fully sealed system contains the circulating hot water for the central heating. The feed and expansion cylinder destined for the attic can now be dispensed with. The hot water storage cylinder can also be spared as the heating boiler will have its own hot water storage vessel.
The boiler produces hot water immediately as it is needed, this is signalled when you switch on a tap. The hot water is produced by the use of a highly efficient integral heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is heated by clever use of the existing hot water in the central heating system. Fresh cold water from the outside mains passes through this heat exchanger where it is heated before it reaches the hot water valve.
Automatic priority is rendered to the requirement for hot water over water being furnished to the radiators to heat up the household. The radiators are provided with hot water once the valve is closed.
This might give you food for thought and the impulse to consider a combi boiler as your next new boiler.
