The winter is approaching so get a gas central heating system
We should all prepare for the wintertime months as the weather gets colder and the days shorter by having good gas central heating in our homes. There’s nothing cosier than a warm room while a blizzard rages outside, and this warmth is best provided by a sturdy and efficient gas central heating system.
The two basic types of gas central heating systems are called pumped and vented, both of which are made up of a gas boiler, radiators and usually copper pipework.
Popularly used are pumped systems which comprise of a main feed and expansion water tank that heats up and transmits the heat through pipework to secondary heaters (central heating radiators). The expansion tank might fill up at times because of water expansion.
There is also what is known as a sealed system in which no centre core is used to warm the heating radiators. It’s basically closed, so there is really no need for any water tanks and the space they require. The major benefits from this type of system, is that it essentially lessens the risk of leaking and stops other likely problems such airlocks, one of the better advantages, especially for colder countries is that there is no risk of pipes freezing up.
Do I really need a central heating system to heat my house?.
The major advantage of central heating is that the home or work space can be quickly, uniformly and efficiently heated without compromising the quality of air in your surroundings. The old type heaters that were used were gas fires and electric heaters, as well as storage heaters. However, these older heating methods make the air sticky and hard, and can also emit an unpleasant smell.
With gas central heating systems, these problems are not encountered, but your central heating system will require regular maintenance. Many home owners turn them on immediately at the arrival of cold weather after leaving them off during the summer season, which is not the proper thing to do. Try to switch on your heating system during autumn so that if there is any defect, it can be fixed well before winters approach and fixed at a time when the heating engineers are less busy.
Furthermore, some of these systems also give admission to air and dirt; therefore draining is a necessity, which should be done regularly with an annual service schedule. For draining the system just open the valve and keep a bucket below it for water collection, ensure that water doesn’t enter the system when it is being drained.
