Salvage space with a combination heating boiler

Salvage space with a combination heating boiler

small-scale homes can benefit from fitting a combi boiler as they need much less storage space than traditional heating boilers. It is possible to put in a full central heating and hot water system by purchasing only a gas powered combi boiler with a balanced flue. To complete the heating you just need radiators, the necessary fittings and a quantity of copper piping. You might ask whether we had missed some pieces out of this statement. Central heating systems seem to need a hot water cylinder to store water, a feed and enlargement cylinder in the loft and a water pump to move everything around.

If you have a contemporary combi gas boiler it will not require any of these incremental pieces. The hot water storage cylinder can be excluded from your system, the feed and enlargement tank can be left out of the loft, the other petite pieces we have brought up are actually built into the combi heating boiler. So you can see with a combi gas boiler you can save a sizeable amount of room within your house.

Do not think that all this is new as combination heating boilers have been fitted for a while now. They have a longer history in Europe but have now become the most common heating boiler in the UK. By comparing with orthodox gas boilers you will see that there are two main divergences. The first is that hot water circles around a sealed system when heating the central heating. This means that there is no demand for a feed and expansion tank in the loft. Supplemental room is saved by the gas boiler incorporating its own hot water storage vessel removing the requirement for the hot water storage cylinder.

Domestic hot water is developed as required, the heating boiler is aware of this when you turn on a hot water valve. The gas boiler can rapidly heat cold water by using an internal heat exchanger. Water from the sealed central heating circuit is heated and is diverted to the hot water heat exchanger heating it up. This permits cold mains water to be rapidly heated before leaving the hot water valve.

Hot water supply to the radiators is a lower priority than the production of instant hot water for the house. As soon as the hot water valve is shut the combi gas boiler system will once again start providing hot water to the radiators.

It is possible to install a new boiler in a small flat and not need a great amount of space.
