Neglect central heating boiler maintenance policies at your own risk
Today most possessions, right from pets to mobile phones, are covered by protection policies. Of course, some things are more important to get covered than others and, with the likes of motor insurance, you may be legally required to do so. The bank will need the borrower to take out buildings insurance in a case when there is the need for a mortgage to buy a property. These insurance policies can prevent you from suffering huge loses impacting on your life for years to come.
If we move our attention to risks which are less important then we would meet products such as central heating insurance, protection products which are offered by the likes of British Gas, npower, Eon and Homeserve. The heating system in your house is an expensive component that sometimes suffers costly failures – yet homeowners do not take central heating insurance as seriously as they should. The other problem is that actually getting someone to repair it can take time, and living without hot water or heating is no fun, especially in winter. A damaged or badly maintained central heating system can leak carbon monoxide gas which can be deadly.
Several types of central heating insurance plans are available. Basic plans will cover annual servicing, safety checks and other minimum requirements. Spare parts and repair work are usually not included in these basic plans as inclusion will increase the costs. You can upgrade to a more comprehensive plan that includes spare parts and repairs by paying a small amount on a monthly basis, however remember you don’t need to pay anything if your central heating system is still in the warranty period. This is a smart move, specially as the boiler’s warranty period and working life draw to a close. Customers need to choose at this stage whether they just want their boiler covered, or if they want to extend their cover to the rest of the central heating system, radiators and such like.
Exemptions or limitations which are written into the insurance document should be carefully considered while choosing a policy. The number of call outs per year or maximum cost of inclusive repairs for a given period are limited by some providers. As should be done for all other kinds of plans, don’t simply select an insurance policy with the lowest cost without examining the level of coverage and ascertaining it fulfills your requirements and that of your gas central heating system.
