Modern gas fired boilers are a great deal more economical

In recent years we have seen the costs of gas and electricity rise considerably. This rising energy cost combined with the current economic downturn has understandably lead to people looking at ways in which they can reduce the amount they spend on their utility bills. Central Heating for the home or work space contributes a hefty chunk to these heavy utility bills. Fortunately there are many things that people can do to cut the amount they spend on heating their home.

Ineffective Central Heating Systems should be changed.

If it has crossed 10 years, it’s past the hill – retire the old gas boiler and install a modern and more efficient central heating system. You can dramatically cut the gas you use, and in turn your bills, by getting a more efficient system installed. Condensing and Combi Boilers both make good replacements for aging systems.

Getting Rebates and Heating Grants.

If you are a british resident, then your chance to qualify for one of the grants is good. A grant from the United Kingdom authorities can cover the cost of putting in a central heating system along with the relevant insulation and sealing, to the extent of 2700 pounds. To qualify you need to either own your own home or be renting from a private landlord and be receiving an income or disability related benefit. People over the age of sixty may also qualify for a central heating rebate of 300.

Insulation of your cavity walls.

Approximately 30% of heat loss from a house occurs through the walls, to improve the insulating ability of the cavity you have to use a suitable insulating material. If you have cavity wall insulation installed you can cut a large portion of the heat lost through walls. With the insulation, the heating system works more efficiently and the amount of heat required to heat your home also decreases. A further benefit of cavity insulation is that having it installed can actually increase the value of your home.

What About Solar Hot Water Systems?.

Solar hot water systems are a way to provide your home with hot water in a cost effective and environmentally friendly way. The amount of solar energy reaching the roof of an average home in the UK can easily contribute to a significant part of the households hot water needs and so reducing the use of the standard water heater.

You can cut down on the gas central heating costs in a number of ways if you follow this advice. Now you have seen how to keep your home warm at low expenditure you do not need to worry about how to provide the hot water and heating for your family within a limited budget.
