Demolish your gas heating system prices
Improving the cost-efficiency of your boiler will help this and also help to reduce your heating charges. Whilst central heating systems have become more efficient in recent years they will typically consume up to half of all your gas costs. If you want to trim your energy costs read on as we have outlined some actions you can take.
Don’t use the boiler in places where it is not required :
Gas heating system radiators are made to be turned on and off. Have a view whether there are any rooms in your home which are not being used and switch off the metal radiator there. You want to keep your home temperature comfortable that this doesn’t require you to heat rooms which are not going to be occupied for a number of days. closing the entrance door to these rooms will also stop warm air leaking into them and cold air flowing out.
switch off a fire if you are using the boiler :
A fire is far less efficient than the gas boiler system. A lot of the heat generated by a fire goes up in the flue to the outside, a central heating is more cost-efficient than an electric fire.
Use insulation to stop draughts
If you allow cold drafts to come into your home then you need to pay for more gas to heat this air. Use draft excluders or entrance door brushes where they can be fitted. You can get foam sealers which will rapidly close any air cracks that have developed between your entrance door or windows and the wall. These type of cracks happen often in aging homes as the foundations settle. If you are careful and use a wax candle flame you can detect where drafts are in a room.
Put on more closing rather than switching up the heating :
When you sense the room is a little cold look at putting on some additional clothes in preference to switching up the room thermostat. Maintaining a 1 degree reduction on the thermostat can save up to ten% on your heating charges.
Use the drapes effectively :
In the wintertime make sure that the drapes are open when the sun is shining to heat your home. External temperatures drop at nightime and your home can lose a lot of heat through the windows. Curtains can be an incremental form of insulation and this time and trim heat loss if they are closed, saving a small amount each daylight amounts to a large saving on your heating charges over time. Thin drapes are not as effective as thick ones at preventing this heat loss.
Some guidance for other parts of your heating system :
You must insulate your gas heating system hot water tank if you have one. A tank which is not insulated will rapidly lose its heat and cause you to pay to heat the hot water over again.
The use of metal foil on the wall by your metal radiator can be used to reflect warmth back into the room rather than out into the wall and the outside.
