Cleaning heating systems before extra more action
Cleaning heating systems before extra more action
Flushing a fully pumped heating system makes it easier to work on the system. To work on a heating radiator problem or to extend the system maybe. Ordinarily this task will be performed by your heating engineer but in some circumstances it can be performed by the experienced maintenance handyman.
In most situations Flushing the central heating is performed to clean the heating radiators. For this activity the first activity will be to switch off the central heating boiler and heating pump. Another crucial step is to ensure that no additional water enters the central heating system whilst you are Cleaning it.
gas heating systems are normally topped up through a tank in the attic. This has a ball-valve that is the same as the one seen in your toilet cylinder. As the water reaches maximal level the ball floats on the surface and closes the valve. The valve will be opened in the water levels fall as the ball will float on the falling water surface. This process will need to be stopped if the central heating system is to be fully emptied. One of the better ways to stop this is by putting a piece of wood across the cylinder and tying the value arm to it, which will close this valve.
Now take a hose pipe emptying into an outdoors clean and connect this to the outlet valve on the bottom of your heating radiator. The water from your metal radiator will current through the hose pipe and out of your heating radiator system. The hosepipe needs to be attached to the lowest point in your gas central heating system which will be one of the ground floor heating radiators. You must make sure before you start cleansing or replacing your metal radiator that all of the water has been flushed out.
The process can be hurried up by venting the bleed valves in the top floor metal radiators. When all the water has emptied you can now commence work on the system.
